Would you rather read about faeries or genies?

Would you rather read a fantasy series where the main heroine is a fairy or a genie (and not the genie in a bottle, enslaved type of genie)? Also, I want the series to appeal to both genders and I'm worried that something like a female fairy protagonist will dissuade boys from reading. And what unique takes can I use on faeries or genies that would appeal to readers?
